Six Samsung Affiliates Invest $1 Billion in KKR's Helix AI Infrastructure Platform

Six Samsung affiliates announced Tuesday they are jointly investing $1 billion in Helix Digital Infrastructure, the AI infrastructure platform established by KKR in June 2026. Samsung Electronics puts in $500 million. The other $500 million comes from Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance, and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance.

Samsung joins a founding investor group that includes KKR, Nvidia, the Kuwait Investment Authority, and US power company Vistra. Each investor brings a specific piece of the stack Helix is assembling.

What Helix Is Building

Helix targets the entire AI infrastructure value chain: hyperscale data center development and operations, power generation across both baseload and flexible energy sources, transmission and distribution infrastructure, and fiber-optic networks. The strategy reflects the industry’s current bottleneck: compute is available but power is not. Helix is positioning itself to own the energy layer, not just lease it.

The company is targeting revenue streams that go beyond colocation. Helix’s business model centers on GPU-as-a-Service, Sovereign AI deployments, and colocation — three segments where owning the underlying energy and facility infrastructure produces a structural cost advantage over operators who lease power.

What Samsung Brings

The Samsung investment is not passive capital. Each affiliate adds a supply-side capability.

Samsung Electronics’ Device eXperience Division contributes data center cooling infrastructure through FläktGroup, its HVAC subsidiary acquired in 2025, which operates across 65 countries with 14 production sites. Samsung SDS, the group’s IT services arm, designs, builds, and operates data centers with a GPUaaS offering and the lowest reported power usage effectiveness in South Korea — it also runs the Korea AI Computing Center. Samsung SDI supplies uninterruptible power supplies and battery backup units critical for maintaining uptime in high-density compute environments.

Samsung C&T provides construction and project development capacity. Samsung Life Insurance and Samsung Fire & Marine bring structured financial instruments for infrastructure-scale long-duration investments.

The arrangement lets Helix call on Samsung’s manufacturing and engineering depth when scaling capacity — a meaningful advantage when GPU facility build timelines are measured in months and power procurement in years.

Scale and Timing

Helix launched three months ago. Recruiting Samsung this quickly — at a $1 billion commitment level across six entities — suggests the company’s pipeline is moving faster than a typical pre-revenue infrastructure platform. Vistra’s involvement on the energy supply side and Nvidia’s on the compute side meant Helix’s anchor investor list already spanned the physical AI stack. Samsung’s addition fills the facility, cooling, and battery layer.

KKR disclosed at Helix’s June 2026 launch that the platform had secured more than $10 billion in capital commitments. Samsung’s $1 billion addition brings the total above $11 billion, across a founding group that now covers silicon, energy, construction, and financial infrastructure.
