MongoDB CEO CJ Desai Joins Meta as Chief Enterprise Platform Officer, Stock Drops 20%
MongoDB CEO Chirantan “CJ” Desai has resigned effective immediately to join Meta as Chief Enterprise Platform Officer, a newly created position reporting directly to Mark Zuckerberg. MongoDB shares fell as much as 20% on the news.
Desai’s appointment is part of Meta’s accelerating push into enterprise AI infrastructure. Zuckerberg framed the hire in terms of superintelligence economics: “We believe superintelligence will create significant new opportunities for all people and businesses.” Desai will lead Meta’s efforts to build platform capabilities for enterprise customers, a market where Meta has historically had limited presence compared to Microsoft, Google, and Amazon.
The Role
Chief Enterprise Platform Officer is a new title at Meta. The scope of the role has not been formally disclosed beyond the announcement, but the framing ties it directly to Zuckerberg’s AI priorities rather than to existing business units. Desai reports to Zuckerberg personally, not through any existing division.
Desai joined MongoDB as President and CEO in November 2025, succeeding longtime CEO Dev Ittycheria. He came to MongoDB from Cloudflare, where he was President of Product and Engineering, and before that served as President and COO at ServiceNow. His departure comes after a roughly eleven-month tenure.
MongoDB After Desai
MongoDB has appointed former CEO Dev Ittycheria as interim President and CEO while a permanent successor search is underway. The stock reaction — a 15-20% decline in early trading — reflects investor concern over back-to-back leadership changes at a company whose AI product roadmap is central to its enterprise story.
The move follows a pattern of major enterprise software executives pivoting toward AI-first companies. Meta’s hiring of a veteran enterprise CEO signals an intent to build credibility with corporate buyers who have been slower to adopt Meta’s AI products than individual consumers.
