KPMG Deploys Claude to 276,000 Employees in 138 Countries — the Largest Professional Services AI Rollout
KPMG announced a global alliance with Anthropic on May 19, deploying Claude across its entire workforce and embedding it directly into the client-facing software its employees and clients use every day.
The scope is significant: 276,000 employees across 138 countries, with Claude embedded inside Digital Gateway — KPMG’s primary software platform for audit, tax, legal, and advisory work. The initial tooling targets tax and legal clients. KPMG is also named Anthropic’s preferred partner for private equity, with a joint product development roadmap for PE portfolio companies.
What Gets Built
The alliance covers three distinct deployment tracks:
Employee access. All 276,000+ KPMG staff get direct access to Claude, building on two years of prior adoption inside KPMG US, including its AI and Data Labs. The US rollout provided proof of scale; the global extension is the result.
Client-facing tooling. Claude goes into Digital Gateway as a native capability, starting with new tools for tax and legal clients. KPMG operates in industries where errors have regulatory and fiduciary consequences — the standard being applied to Claude here is not typical enterprise chatbot deployment.
Cybersecurity. KPMG and Anthropic teams will jointly use Claude to identify and fix vulnerabilities in critical systems, guided by KPMG’s Trusted AI framework. This extends Anthropic’s cybersecurity positioning beyond its existing Glasswing coalition and direct cyber model offerings into the professional services delivery layer.
The PE Angle
The private equity partnership creates a pathway into KPMG’s portfolio client base. Anthropic gains access to the companies KPMG advises in PE — typically mid-market and large-cap operations running complex finance, compliance, and operational workflows. Building joint products for PE portfolio companies means Anthropic is embedding into the deal flow layer, not just the audit one.
“KPMG works in industries where accuracy, accountability, and trust aren’t optional, and they’re applying the same standard to AI,” said Daniela Amodei, co-founder and President of Anthropic. “They’re also bringing it into cybersecurity, where it helps find and fix vulnerabilities. That’s what a firm-wide commitment to AI looks like.”
Context
The Big Four accounting and advisory firms have been slower to make firm-wide AI commitments than tech or financial services clients. KPMG’s deal is the most comprehensive announced by any of the four. PwC has run Claude pilots; Deloitte has a broad Microsoft Copilot deployment; EY has its own internal AI assistant program. None have confirmed a single-vendor, full-workforce, client-tools embedded deployment at this scale.
For Anthropic, KPMG delivers distribution across 138 countries in professional contexts where model reliability and accuracy matter more than raw benchmark performance. It also extends the revenue base beyond US enterprise into global professional services at a moment when Anthropic is aggressively expanding its commercial footprint ahead of its IPO timeline.
