xAI’s image-to-video model Grok Imagine Video 1.5 is now generally available on the xAI API after a preview period. The model is also rolling out to grok.com/imagine and the iOS and Android apps as Video 1.5 Fast.

What Changed

The core use case is the same as before — provide a starting frame, describe the motion, get a short video back. The primary changes are speed (Fast tier now runs in 25 seconds instead of 40+) and claimed quality improvements across motion, physics, and audio that are not independently measurable without access to the model.

xAI is also rolling out parallel agent support in Grok Imagine. Users can now kick off multiple generation jobs simultaneously across projects rather than queuing them serially. This matters for production workflows where batch generation is the norm.

Competitive Context

The image-to-video space has a clear leader. ByteDance’s SeedDance 2.0 holds both top spots on Arena Video at Elo 1450, 79 points ahead of Google Veo 3.1. Google’s Gemini Omni Flash entered the Video Arena recently; Grok Imagine Video 1.5 is not yet on the leaderboard.

xAI has not disclosed whether Video 1.5 will be submitted for Arena Video evaluation. Without benchmark positioning, the quality claims — better motion, better physics — are marketing assertions. The speed improvement is the only quantified claim in the launch: a 37% reduction in generation time from 40+ seconds to ~25 seconds.

Grok’s video generation has been a secondary product relative to its text and voice lines. Video 1.5 going GA brings it into formal API availability for the first time, which matters for developers building production pipelines. Whether the quality claims translate to Arena competitiveness will depend on evaluation results that have not yet been announced.
