DeepSeek V4 Pro's Week-Long $0.21 Rate Was a Data Error, Not a Price Cut

DeepSeek V4 Pro’s API price on OpenRouter briefly appeared to have dropped 78% last week. It hadn’t. The fifth observation in the DeAI Price Index — a weekly snapshot series tracking 17 frontier model rows on OpenRouter — confirmed on October 12 that the reading was an anomaly.

Current price: $0.9553 per million input tokens, $1.9105 per million output tokens — exactly the September level. Last week’s $0.2088/$0.4176 reading has not recurred.

What the Price History Actually Shows

DeepSeek V4 Pro’s OpenRouter price has been broadly stable since August, when the 0813 version went generally available as the official flagship (replacing the 0423 preview). The August price was also in the $0.95–$1.00 input range.

The October 5 anomalous reading — if it appeared at all in API queries — was consistent with a temporary catalog error, not a deliberate cut. DeepSeek did not announce any pricing change. No official pricing page reflected the lower figure.

The official DeepSeek platform lists V4 Pro 0813 at $1.32 input / $3.96 output — higher than OpenRouter’s standard listing, likely reflecting DeepSeek’s direct-API pricing vs OpenRouter’s reseller rate.

What This Tells You About Pricing Aggregators

OpenRouter’s public models API — which the DeAI Price Index reads — reflects catalog metadata, not necessarily the price a caller will be charged at that moment. Temporary discrepancies between the API metadata and actual billing are possible during updates, version transitions, or catalog migrations.

For cost modeling, treat a single week’s anomalous reading with caution before updating budgets or switching providers. Persistent multi-week readings are more reliable signals.

The same DeAI Price Index observation also logged a GLM-5.3 Flash repricing — input down 85%, output up 140% — which is a different model and a distinct event, not an aggregator error.

Current DeepSeek V4 Pro Pricing

SourceInput / 1MOutput / 1M
OpenRouter (Oct 12)$0.9553$1.9105
DeepSeek platform (0813)$1.32$3.96

The gap between OpenRouter and DeepSeek’s own platform reflects standard reseller margin dynamics, not a different product.
