Cloudflare Launches 'cf' CLI as 48% of Wrangler Calls Are Now Agent-Generated
Cloudflare has released cf, a new CLI designed for the current split in its user base: roughly half human, roughly half agent.
In March 2026, agents accounted for 25% of all Wrangler CLI usage. Last week, that figure reached 48%. Agents use Wrangler differently than humans — nearly twice as many distinct commands per day and four times more likely to run six or more commands in a session. The existing tool could not keep up. Wrangler covers around 280 operations. Cloudflare offers thousands.
cf is available now in open beta: npm i -g cf
What Changed
The new CLI mirrors the entire Cloudflare API, generated automatically from Cloudflare’s API schema using an internal SDK generator called Forge, which is also being open-sourced today.
Output format defaults to JSON. For humans, it is pretty-printed. For agents, it is condensed — fewer tokens, same information, designed to preserve context budget across multi-step operations. Commands follow consistent naming patterns across product teams, eliminating the inconsistencies that grew in Wrangler as each team contributed commands independently.
Configuration has also changed. cloudflare.config.ts replaces the previous format as the new standard for the whole of Cloudflare, starting with Workers. TypeScript-native configuration gives both developers and their agents Language Server Protocol (LSP) support for type checking and autocompletion. Vite becomes the default local development server.
Agentic Search and Steering
The design feature that distinguishes cf from a straightforward API wrapper is its command discovery model. Agents can search for the command they need using natural-language queries against a command index built into the tool. Steering controls let an agent confirm it is on the right path before executing, reducing the cost of wrong-direction runs in multi-step workflows.
Cloudflare frames this as infrastructure for the agentic era: not just exposing the API, but building the discovery and error-recovery primitives that make long-horizon agent use reliable.
Wrangler remains available for existing workflows. cf is positioned as the path forward for both agentic pipelines and developers who want coverage beyond Workers.
