Anthropic Launches Claude for Small Business: 15 Agentic Workflows, 7 Connectors, No IT Required
Anthropic launched Claude for Small Business on May 13, delivering its fifth market-specific product bundle after versions for legal, financial services, life sciences, and education. The package runs inside Claude Cowork, the company’s multi-step agentic desktop app, and targets a segment that generates 44% of US GDP while lagging enterprise AI adoption by a wide margin.
What Ships
The bundle installs in one toggle inside the Claude Cowork desktop app. No IT involvement required. It connects to seven external platforms out of the box:
- Intuit QuickBooks — payroll planning, monthly close, cash flow, tax prep, reconciliation
- PayPal — settlements, invoicing, disputes, refunds
- HubSpot — lead triage, customer pulse, campaign attribution
- Canva — content generation, multi-channel asset publishing, performance tracking
- DocuSign — contract dispatch, status tracking, executed-copy filing
- Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 — document creation, calendar, email
Fifteen pre-built commands run end-to-end workflows across finance, operations, sales, marketing, HR, and customer service. Fifteen underlying skills activate automatically as needed: cash-flow forecasting, margin analysis, invoice chasing, contract review, lead triage, customer sentiment, tax prep, and more.
Key slash commands: /plan-payroll, /close-month, /run-campaign, /monday-brief. Most workflows degrade gracefully when a connector is not connected.
The Pitch
Anthropic frames the positioning explicitly around a public-benefit rationale: small businesses haven’t had the resources of large enterprises, and AI is the first technology that can close that gap. Every workflow runs with user approval before anything sends, posts, or pays. Existing tool permissions carry over — if an employee can’t see something in QuickBooks today, they can’t see it through Claude.
CEO Daniela Amodei noted the product takes on “the late-night work” — tasks that pile up outside business hours like payroll planning, invoice chasing, and monthly close prep.
Agent SDK Credits
Alongside the small business launch, Anthropic updated its Agent SDK and will issue monthly credits to paid Claude users starting June 15. Credits range from $20/month (Pro plan) to $200/month (Max plan), applicable to third-party agentic integrations built on the SDK.
Pricing and Access
No separate SKU. Claude for Small Business is included at standard Claude Pro and Team plan pricing. The Claude Cowork desktop app is required; web-only access is not supported for multi-step agentic workflows.
Anthropic is running a free half-day SMB workshop tour in 10 US cities: Chicago (May 14), Tulsa (May 19), Dallas (May 20), Hamilton Township (June 3), Baton Rouge (June 10), Birmingham (June 12), Salt Lake City (June 16), Baltimore (June 18), San Jose (June 22), Indianapolis (June 26). Each stop offers 100 seats with a one-month Claude Max subscription for attendees. A free AI Fluency for Small Business online course, co-produced with PayPal, is also live.
Context
The product follows a recognisable Anthropic pattern: take a high-complexity, repetitive back-office problem, wrap agentic workflows around it, and go vertical. Claude for Finance dropped in March with S&P integrations. Claude for Legal followed in April with DocuSign and matter-management connectors. Small business is both larger in addressable scope and lower in average technical sophistication — the toggle-install design reflects that directly.
The 15-command / 15-skill architecture is consistent with how Anthropic has structured other vertical bundles: pre-built workflows for the most common tasks, building-block skills that activate automatically, and connector-by-connector graceful degradation.
