Apple Commits $30B to Broadcom for 15 Billion US-Made Chips

Apple is committing more than $30 billion to Broadcom in an expanded chipmaking agreement that the company describes as its largest American manufacturing commitment to date. The deal is structured to produce more than 15 billion chips on US soil across multiple device lines.

“Apple has made investing in the United States a clear priority, and we hope other companies will follow its lead,” a Trump administration official said in a statement following the announcement.

Broadcom’s Dual Role

Broadcom has supplied Apple with wireless connectivity chips — WiFi, Bluetooth, and cellular RF components — for over twenty years. Every iPhone, iPad, and Mac ships Broadcom silicon inside. The new agreement scales that production through US-based fabrication, timed to align with the administration’s domestic semiconductor manufacturing push.

But Broadcom is not just a wireless chip vendor. It designs Google’s Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) under a partnership now locked through 2031 via an 8-K filing. It co-designs Meta’s custom inference silicon. Any expansion of Broadcom’s US production capacity — even for connectivity chips — deepens a company that is already the structural backbone of two of the largest AI compute customers on the planet.

Apple’s AI Stack

Apple’s own AI buildout makes the timing notable. On-device inference for iOS 27 runs on increasingly capable Apple Neural Engine silicon. Claude Sonnet 5 powers Apple’s revised Siri on a Gemini-trained foundation, but the silicon executing that inference at the edge is Apple’s own. More capable edge AI requires more capable on-device chips — which requires Broadcom at every layer below the processor.

Apple also committed earlier this year to $500 billion in total US domestic investment. The Broadcom partnership, at $30B+, is the largest single element of that pledge identified so far.

Deal Context

The announcement follows Apple’s separate preliminary agreement with Intel covering advanced-node chip fabrication through Intel Foundry. The Broadcom deal appears complementary rather than overlapping — Intel for leading-edge logic, Broadcom for wireless and connectivity volume.

For Broadcom CEO Hock Tan, the deal locks in Apple’s production volume at US facilities while positioning the company to capture CHIPS Act incentives. Broadcom’s AI custom silicon segment — TPUs, MTIA, and similar — is its primary growth vector. Anchoring Apple’s connectivity procurement in US fabs gives Broadcom domestic manufacturing scale that benefits the entire portfolio.

Key Numbers

  • Commitment: $30B+
  • Chip volume: 15B+ units, US-made
  • Scope: WiFi, Bluetooth, RF, and related connectivity silicon for Apple device lines
  • Context: Largest element of Apple’s $500B US domestic investment pledge to date
